CIO Magazine:
Visual Explanation of Six Sigma
To enhance an online "Emerging Technology" article explaining the corporate quality assurance process known as Six Sigma, CIO Magazine looked to Dynamic Diagrams to create an accompanying infographic. The goal was to imbed a visual explanation in the article that could also stand alone as a "printer-friendly" version to be offered as an educational pass-along document.
The Challenge: Explaining a Complex Idea In a Small Amount of Space
Six Sigma is a multi-step process based upon extensive data collection and complex statistical analysis; the question was how to best convey the concept of the technology along with relevant details. Because the intent of the article is to serve as a quick primer, the infographic needed to present the process in a small amount of space and in an intuitive fashion.
Our Solution: Highlight Key Points With a Visual Metaphor
By closely working with the content editor, we defined the key steps to the Six Sigma process and supported these with a visual metaphor showing how the application of Six Sigma ultimately smoothed business processes, leading to less variation and thereby avoiding costly errors. The Six Sigma article was one of CIO Magazine's top 50 Web pages the month it was posted with nearly 1,000 downloads of the visualization PDF.
