ESI Whitepaper Project
As a pharmaceutical benefits management company (PBM), Express Scripts, Inc., (ESI) provides pharmacy services and benefit plan-design consultation for clients, including managed-care organizations, insurance carriers, and employers. ESI asked us to create data visualizations for a set of whitepapers that explained ESI's role in providing access to safe and affordable medications.
The Challenge: Don't Let Complex Concepts Obscure the Message
Pharmacy benefits management goes beyond determining prescription co-pays. The whitepapers addressed topics as diverse as government regulation, customer satisfaction, privacy protection, accounting practices, and care management. Each paper required a visual explanation that detailed a multifaceted concept while conveying ESI's contribution in the area.
Our Solution: Create Visual Explanations That Also Convey Value
Working closely with a team of ESI business, marketing, and research staff, we developed an appropriate visualization that linked each paper with its accompanying data. More than simple illustrations, our visual explanations make the complex concepts behind pharmacy benefits understandable. The end result: each visualization not only serves the particular paper in question, but can stand on its own as a concise yet comprehensible visual explanation of the key issue and message.
Prior to this project, ESI had not undertaken the task of consolidating research in their principal areas into one resource document. The whitepapers are now being used to educate and train staff within the company, and will also serve as source documentation for future company communications.
