IBM:
ThinkPad Setup Instructions
As it developed its ThinkPad family of laptop computers, IBM asked Dynamic Diagrams to analyze the packing and instructions that accompanied the device and its components.
The Challenge: Some Assembly is Always Required
When users unpacked their computers, they encountered a bewildering array of poorly labeled papers and parts. Inexperienced users had a hard time finding which parts connected to which place and in what order components should be assembled.
Our Solution: One Map for All the Parts
We created a product map that showed the computer and all its pieces in their proper relationship, at actual size. When a user placed the laptop on the product map, the order and attachment of parts became clear. The product map joined IBM's larger effort of redefining its packaging for mobile computers.
