Samsung Electronics Corporation:
Global and Country Web Site Design
Samsung Electronics Corporation (SEC) has over 70 different Web sites, covering regions and countries from Korea to Canada, and products from semiconductors to air conditioners. In the spring of 2000, SEC enlisted Dynamic Diagrams to redesign its global and many country sites. The new interface had to provide a consistent navigational "look and feel" while strengthening the company's identity worldwide.
The Challenge: Achieve both Consistency and Flexibility
Existing SEC sites often diverged in their appearance and organization. The new designs had to provide consistent branding and navigation, yet allow for country-specific news and product information in the language of the country. The structure behind the designs had to have the flexibility to handle future product lines and promotions.
Our Solution: Analyze First, then Design
Based on a detailed analysis of existing SEC sites, we developed an information architecture that responded to all of SEC's needs. Tight integration between global and country sites allows users to easily navigate from a country site to global content without losing track of their location.
We then created designs that incorporated SEC's concerns for consistent branding and navigation. Typographical elements were tested with both Latin and non-Latin alphabets, ensuring a successful global rollout for the new designs. We delivered this work with sample page templates and detailed design guidelines in both web and print format ensuring that SEC staff around the world could successfully implement our recommendations.
